I don't get much of a Metroid vibe from Carceri, but those hazy angular landscapes do look like they'd make decent Psychonauts levels.

The irony here is that the in-game artworks in Carceri are represented as the handiwork of in-game sentient AI characters.

Anyway, good news for me and the proverbial boys, because multiplayer sci-fi anti-ant shooter Earth Defense Force 6 is dropping on July 25th, 2024.

Earth Defense Force 6, then, does not appear to revolutionise the veteran franchise, but does include the following features, via Steam.

Supports online co-op play.

All missions support online co-op play for up to four players.

Offline co-op play is also available in split-screen mode.

That's something Helldivers 2 players will have to do pretty sharpish, as Arrowhead announce mandatory account linking between Steam and Playstation Network.

In Arrowhead's announcement post, they say that account linking wasn't mandatory when Helldivers 2 launched because of the technical issues the game faced at the time.

Existing PC players will start to see mandatory Playstation Network logins fromMay 30th - you'll need to create a PSN account if you haven't already by June 4th.

New players will need a PSN account as of May 6th.

Anyway, I'm lucky enough that I've already created a PSN account and linked the two.

Crossover fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite first sauntered onto various videogaming mechanisms back in 2017.

But others did, sometimes complaining about the art style, which was a chunky and plastic-looking departure from previous games in the series.

A fighting game modder has been tinkering with shaders to bring the comic book style of previous games to Infinite.

Back when cel-shading was first being used in games like Jet Set Radio, the art style was not so universally appreciated.

I gave that Pools game a go recently - you know, the first-person traipse through some liminal spaces that happen to be pool themed.

At one point it was trending on Steam and since then it's garnered loads of positive reviews, with people saying it's unsettling and drips with atmosphere.

Reader, I do think it's quite atmospheric, but I do not think it's all that unsettling.

Ubisoft's elusive free-to-play shooter XDefiant finally has a release date, 21st May 2024.

Or at least, that's when the preseason launches, providing six weeks of access to the modes, maps and factions from last month's server test.

The preseason comes with five modes - Domination, Hot Shot, Occupy, Escort and Zone Control - and 14 maps.

In total, the game's first year in the wilds will introduce another four factions, 12 weapons and 12 maps.

Fabledom somehow passed me by, but darn if it isn't leaving early access in about a week and a half.

May 13th (unlucky for some) will see this fairytale kingdom city builder launch into 1.0, after a comparatively short but successful early access run on Steam.

The people of Fabledom are called Fablings, and the trailer also implies, slightly unkindly, that they've been able to cultivate such a lovely way of life by being Hobbit-y dipshits that everyone else just avoids.

As such, while everyone else does war and politics, the Fablings get to grow pumpkins and keep sheep and have lovely flower gardens.

This is kind of a cool way of handling a marriage (bit Crusader Kings-y, maybe?)

As detailed on Steam, it introduces a new underworld map, 13 new monsters, a new item, the Rescue hook, and a progression system whereby you can spend MetaCoins on upgrades for your cosy island haven.

Also, a hat shop, and a mirror in which you can presumably admire your new hat.

There's also a new cursed object to find in the Old World (another species of hat, or perhaps one of those gnarly masks from Lethal Company?

Content Warning has dropped off the grapevine somewhat since launching with a free promotion that propelled it to the top of the charts, but it remains an amusing co-op horror experience and a worthy alternative to Lethal Company.

Players need to scavenge to survive, building up their gear and arsenal over several runs alongside three human or AI squadmates.

Given the stakes, you'll need to use stealth and teamwork to survive among the much larger NPC enemies.

One of the more frustrating parts of Madame Web was the tease for Aña Corazón, Mattie Franklin, and Julia Carpenter as superheroes in full spider-powered glory.

It took watching Madame Web to really make me appreciate it, though.

Microsoft has announced a free five hour gameplay trial for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

However, unlike other Free Play Days additions, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's five hour gameplay trial will be available to all Xbox players.

A year after the release of Redfall and some players are still awaiting promised DLC.

The Bite Back Edition, costing £99.99 and still available on the Xbox store, includes the Redfall Hero Pass that promises "two future heroes".

The last official word on the Hero Pass is from the release notes of its third update last November.

This week's game of the week had to be a Roll7 joint, and while I could have picked literally any of the team's games - they never made anything that was less than glorious - I've gone for Not a Hero, which was published by Devolver Digital back in the day.

For players expecting another skateboarding game after the first two OlliOllis, Not a Hero was both a genuine surprise and something that ultimately felt just right.

It's an action game - there aren't many games that cram in more action - and it plays out in a side view as you race through various locations, smashing windows, taking cover, picking your moment and blasting enemies to pieces.

Helldivers 2 publisher Sony has today announced that players on Steam will soon be required to link to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account.

However, that initial "grace period" for Helldivers 2 players on Steam is now over.

In a new post, Sony explained that, starting 6th May, new Helldivers 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their account to a PSN account.

Then, by 4th June, all players will be required to have linked their Steam and PSN account to keep playing.

Helldivers 2 dropped a topic on Steam talking about a future update that'll force people to link a PSN account to Steam in order to play the game 6hrs ago.

The Knuckles TV show has set a streaming record for Paramount+ on its opening weekend.

The Sonic spin-off show starring Idris Elba in the titular role debuted last weekend on 26th April and, over that weekend, amassed over 4m hours streamed.

A little under a month after Nintendo successfully brought an end to open-source Switch emulator Yuzu, the company has managed to wipe out 8,535 Yuzu GitHub repositories - containing code from the original emulator - all at once with a single DMCA takedown notice.

And that single takedown notice has had a domino affect.

GitHub's notice added that all parent repository owners had been contacted to give them an opportunity to make changes, to instruct them on how to file a DMCA Counter Notice, and to offer legal resources if required.

Horizon Forbidden West PC patch 1.4 has been made available for download, packing visual upgrades alongside UI improvements, and more.

After last week's 1.3 update, a new patch for the PC version has been rolled out.

Since the game's PC release back in March of this year, several patches have been rolled out for the Zero Dawn sequel.

Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition is currently available for both PC and PlayStation 5.

Here's what we wrote about it upon the game's PC launch.

Today, Helldivers 2 publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment announced with a brief Steam blog post that Helldivers 2 PC players will soon need to register a PlayStation Network account (unless they already have one) to keep playing the game.

SIE explained that technical issues at the game's launch forced the publisher to make linking Steam to a PSN account optional.

However, the grace period is about to end, and having a PSN account will become mandatory as of next Monday.

As such, as of May 6th, all new HELLDIVERS 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account.

Gigabyte was kind enough to send their RTX 4070 Ti Super Gaming OC 16G with a large 2.5 slot, a three-fan Windforce cooling solution, increased (from reference model) clock speeds, and some cool-looking RGB bling ring inside the fan space. Below, we'll look at the specifications and features and discuss the performance profile of this 1440p/4K UHD targeted graphics card against its peers and the competition.

Mobile devices like ultrabooks, tablets, and handheld gaming consoles are getting more popular each year. Even if we look only at handheld consoles, a year ago, we had one popular option: Steam Deck. Right now, there is also ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion GO, and soon MSI will join with their new product. Most of consoles and other devices are sold with lower capacity or simply slower storage, so it's not a surprise that many owners think about replacing the storage, which more often is M.2 SSD in a user-friendly and tiny 2230 form factor. For those users, Corsair designed the reviewed today MP600 Core Mini at a high 2TB capacity.

On our last day at CES, Friday, we had a chance to see the show floor. We saw so many things, from 3D printers to AI-based grills, and a whole lot more. In the images below, we'll see new items/ideas from Sony, TCL, Hisense, Samsung, John Deer, Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagon, Mercedes, Goodyear, and many other upstart companies just trying to make their way into the market.

One of the last places we visited at CES 2024 (due to being sick, I had to cancel the next day's appointments) was Enermax. They showed off some exciting new ATX 3.1 power supplies, cool new AIOs (one of which sports a removable LCD screen), and several new chassis that sport USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, including one with skinned with the best game ever, PUBG.

Also in the Venetian were our friends at Gigabyte. We sat down with them and discussed what we'd like to see from them in the future, among other things. Although their ballroom had a lot more than what we'll list here, there were still many cool new things, including the Nvidia 4000 series super cards, new motherboards, AIOs, monitors, and more, with many of them in white.

Later on our first day, we stopped by to visit the Cherry Suite in the Venetian Hotel. Inside, they had several items of note, showing off the keys they are famous for, and some new products as well. Since we last talked with Cherry, they acquired XTRFY (a renowned manufacturer of components and peripherals) and created the CHERRY XTRFY gaming brand to a new generation of high-performance keyboards, mice, and microphones for gamers.

Today, we present the latest and the fastest Corsair SSD - MP700 PRO. The SSD arrived to us a while ago, and we had plenty of time to test it, so the conclusions in this review are based not only on synthetic tests but also on daily workloads.

The MP700 PRO is one of the fastest M.2 SSDs we can buy in stores, and even though it shares the same Phison controllers as all the fastest PCIe 5.0 SSDs, the MP700 PRO's design is improved compared to the competition. Of course, I won't share everything in the introduction, but you can expect some exceptional results.

Swinging by the Hyte/ibuypower ballroom, they shared several items, including the new Nexus Link ecosystem of products, the Keeb TKL keyboard, and its first AIO liquid cooler, the THICC Q60 with its unique, smartphone-size display on the block.

We were busy in MSI's large ballroom as well with them showing off a slew of new and updated items. We saw the new Nvidia Super cards ( in white, another with reference-like cooling), several new monitors including high-frequency OLEDs, power supplies, AIO cooling, magnetic fans, chassis, laptops, their handheld gaming device, and the project zero ecosystem. Among all of the items are several CES innovation award winners.

Starting our day off in the Venetian ballrooms, we visited our friends at ADATA who had a fair amount to share with our crowd. We'll see a water-cooled PCIe 5.0 SSDs, a new AIO that DOESN'T use an Asetek pump, a hybrid air/water CPU cooler, new cases, and new magnetic RGB fans, there was a lot to show off.

Following its release last October on Quest, Dungeons of Eternity, the recipient of our 2023 best multiplayer VR game award, just received its next major patch in its post-launch roadmap.

Meta Quest 3 was used for SteamVR almost as much as Valve Index in April.

Now in April, it's within 0.43% of Valve Index.

That it's still the second most used headset on Steam despite its low resolution compared to modern headsets is remarkable.
