TikTok and Universal Music Group (UMG) have signed a new licensing agreement, ending a months-long dispute over royalties.

Yesterday (May 1), UMG released a new statement announcing that both parties have signed a "multi-dimensional" licensing agreement.

As part of the new agreement, UMG and TikTok will be working together on monetisation opportunities such as global campaigns across musical genres as well as building "artist-centric" tools for UMG artists.

Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, adds: "We are delighted to welcome UMG and UMPG back to TikTok."

Stormzy and Adidas have teamed up to launch a new multipurpose space in Croydon housing a football club, recording studio, and sports gaming hub.

Merky FC HQ opens for the first time today, May 2, on the existing football site Selhurst Sports Arena, managed by London charity Communities First Foundation.

Manchester’s disaster-struck Co-op Live Arena has cancelled its opening show for a third time just minutes before doors were due to open last night (May 1).

The Manchester Evening News reports that the debut event was cancelled after part of an air conditioning unit reportedly fell from the ceiling inside the venue ahead of the show.

Drum 'n' bass pioneer MC Conrad died yesterday, aged 52.

Family and friends of the MC Conrad, real name Conrad Thompson, confirmed the news in a series of tributes on social media, saluting the legacy of an artist who changed the game.

For over 30 years Conrad has been one of the foremost voices of rave culture, and drum ’n’ bass especially.

As well as his pioneering MC style, Conrad also produced music and ran his own label, Resonance.

Conrad first became involved with the rave scene in the very early '90s, developing his craft from its hip hop origins to adapt to the faster pace of electronic music.

Kee Avil’s new album, Spine, leans further into thorny minimalism.

Kee Avil’s music has consistently worn prickliness on its sleeve, landing somewhere in between the sounds of Grouper, Wolf Eyes, and Bill Orcutt.

But even within the scope of such a toothy discography, Spine is particularly discordant.

Universal Music Group has reached a licensing agreement with TikTok that will return its artists to the platform after a months-long standoff.

When @Sennheiser asked me to collab for #421 day I jumped at the chance to cosplay as a 1970s news reporter. I took my trusty vintage MD421-2 and combined it with a period-correct Uher Report Monitor 4000. I have seen reporters on TV, children’s books (Ali Mitgutsch Wimmelbücher for my German audience) and IRL rocking this combination, down to the leather bag. Recording outside I was surprised how sensitive the combination was - I had used the 421 in the studio, on drums especially for my „Nuclear Drum Loops“ sound pack. The Orgon Systems Enigiser was not much of hit when it came out, with only 50 to 150 units being known to exist. But over time it became a cult-classic, thanks to its excellent filter that fits perfectly into underground dance music. After decades of it being a collector's item, we are now spoiled for choice as two companies offer clones and the original creator is re-releasing the Enigiser again. The Elka Drummer One is no Klaus Dinger or Jaki Liebzeit, but it deserves its place in the history of Krautrock drumming. FOCUSED on the creation of drums for house music and some of the nuance that help tie them together. Around halfway, we'll bring in some Piano samples that really help us get a sense of where the song can go! These are drums for a collaboration project I have with @mattwildemusic, an amazing pianist, so I want my drums to hold down the rhythm while not taking too much focus away from the piano. We'll be using the Digitakt to get this going so I can recall the sounds easily later. The last time Volker Bertelmann stopped by NPR to perform as Hauschka, back in 2010, he dumped handfuls of Ping-Pong balls and anything else he could think of over the strings of our in-house grand piano, a performance captured in one of NPR's pristine studios (in a building that no longer exists). But for the Tiny Desk, the pianist and composer assumed the challenge of preparing our significantly smaller upright in a much-less-controlled environment. Чтобы согреться — ловите теплого и настоящего дип хауса самых лучших лет. Правду ведь говорят, что музыка это универсальный язык. Вот и молодому вьетнамскому диджею, который свел нижеприведенные миксы, оказался не чужд американский и европейский хаус из девяностых. В качестве затравки первыми идут подборки с лейблов основателей Дафт Панков (Roule Тома Бангальтера и Crydamoure Ги-Мануэля), но самое интересное идет после них — огромное количество красивой и мягкой музыки из Чикаго, Нью-Йорка, Гамбурга и Франкфурта-на-Майне. Может быть, эти издательства не так известны в широких кругах, но их пластинки определенно заслуживают внимания. #inthemix

Ну и чтобы как следует окунуться в атмосферу хардстеп джангла — держите обезьянку с обложки. В мире джаза Клиффорд Браун был известен под прозвищем Брауни, но ещё за каких-то 4 года до его первых сессий для Blue Note друзья знали его как Брэйна – талантливого студента математического колледжа, который ещё тинейджером сознавал, что иметь престижную и стабильную профессию вдобавок к музыкальным увлечениям не повредит. Вошедший с бибопом в моду героиново-алкогольный флёр Клиффорда тоже никогда не прельщал, он с юных лет демонстрировал удивительный профессионализм и независимость суждений. Не было и дня, чтобы он не выкроил время для репетиций и упражнений – уже позже во время многочисленных турне ранним утром в автобусах и поездах его всегда можно было застать практикующимся на трубе.…

Очень рекомендую не пропускать пластинку нашего старого знакомого Сэма Гендела и бразильского гитариста Фабиано до Насименто. Называется "The Room", вышла на лейбле Real World.На протяжении 35 минут звучат всего два инструмента – акустика и саксофон (который местами вообще больше похож на флейту). Красота неописуемая. Ничего лишнего – каждая нота на своём месте, каждая гармония сыграна с теплом, нежностью и чувством.Ехал под этот альбом в февральскую метель на поезде и просто растворился в этой записи. Одно из самых сильных впечатлений начала года.
