A new festival is coming to Santa Monica, with the Killers and Olivia Dean topping the inaugural bill.

Ocean Way Festival—produced by the much-reviled Coachella organizer Goldenvoice—will take place on September 26 and 27.

The festival, which spans the beach between Santa Monica Pier and Bay Street, takes its name from the street where Allen Sides founded the Ocean Way Recording studios.

Caroline Torosis, mayor of the City of Santa Monica, said in a press release, “Santa Monica is in the middle of a renaissance.

The city is welcoming the world to its shores, and Ocean Way Festival is how we're making sure our own community is at the center of it.”

Dave Kendall, who created and hosted the influential MTV show 120 Minutes, has died.

Bangkok Post, where Kendall worked from 2017 to 2025, also ran an obituary.

He relocated to New York City in the 1980s and created 120 Minutes for MTV, where he spent seven years as a writer, producer, presenter, and news reporter.

Kendall went on to host and co-produce the talk show Music Scoupe, as well as taking on various radio, TV, and DJing gigs.

Long before alternative music found its way into the mainstream, he was there every week on 120 Minutes, introducing people to bands that would go on to define an era.

A new collection of early-career David Bowie music is coming to Parlophone on September 18.

The Shel Talmy Recordings compiles songs the titular producer, known for his work with the Who and the Kinks, made with the late singer in 1965, when he was still going by Davie Jones.

Among the 22 tracks are ten never-before-heard tracks and demos, including collaborations with Jimmy Page and pianist Nicky Hopkins.

Talmy and Bowie primarily recorded together at IBC Studios, located in London’s Portland Place.

By the end of 1965, Davie Jones had begun recording as David Bowie, the name under which he’d release dozens of albums before his death from liver cancer in 2026.

To commemorate the passing of Vladimir Kuzmin, the renown inventor of the Formanta Polivoks synthesizer, and to raise funds for his family, an independent group of musicians and instrument makers held a memorial event in Moscow. They asked me to contribute a video message about his legacy. Since Vladimir Kuzmin had previously commented on my videos, which was mind-blowing to me, I decided to tell that story. This is not a massive vape! It’s the mouthpiece of a Variophone, a rare analog wood and brass synthesizer. It has a rather lovely tone, with lots of formants. The Destiny Plus Entanglement Space makes it sound like an orchestra tuning up. #ambient #sounddesign #synthesizer

The Orban Stereo Synthesizer 245F turns mono audio sources into stereo, using a rather nifty comb filter. It made me horribly nauseous when I heard examples of it, so I had to get one. In use, I experienced that unpleasantness again. Until I plugged synths into it.

With the Brüel & Kjaer 7502 Digital Event Recorder, the unlikely first commercially available sampler, I was very lucky! A fun sound design technique! You don’t need 32 KG of vintage filters for this - Octaves, my plugin with @audiothing would give you a similar sound. Splitting the sound should be easy in an Ableton effect rack, or you run multiple tracks. Let me know how it works out!
