Nationwide protests are taking place across Germany after a police officer shot and killed a 21-year-old Black man outside a nightclub in Oldenburg.

On Sunday, April 20, a 27-year-old police officer fatally shot a man, identified as Lorenz A., following an alleged altercation outside an unnamed nightclub in the northwest German city.

The team behind Romania’s Sunwaves Festival have announced the end of its flagship event after 18 years.

The minimal techno and house-focused festival will go ahead in Romania one last time next month, they announced in an Instagram post yesterday (April 28).

Sunwaves’ final Romania edition, SW35, will go ahead from May 1 - 6 on its regular site, Sunwaves Beach in Mamaia Nord, signalling the end of an era for the famed Ro-minimal event.

Motion has announced that it will close permanently at its current site this coming July, but plans to return in a new location with ‘Motion 2.0’.

The long-running Bristol nightclub first appealed for support to prevent its closure last year amid revelations that its license will expire in July 2025.

US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) agents claim they have detained "over 200 people" following a raid on an unlicensed nightclub in Colorado yesterday (Sunday, April 27).

According to ABC News, officers entered an "underground nightclub" in Colorado Springs at 3:45AM as part of a "multi-agency enforcement operation" between "around 10 federal agencies" alongside local police; the operation utilised an armoured vehicle, drones and helicopters for the operation.

The venue reportedly had over 300 people inside, 114 of which were undocumented migrants who have now been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.

Kneecap have been dropped by their US visa sponsor amid fallout from their recent Coachella performance, meaning the trio are currently unable to perform in the country.

"This can include everything from arrests, criminal convictions, and engaging in conduct that is inconsistent with the visa classification, to an overstay," the statement continues.

Last week, Kneecap's US agent and visa sponsor Independent Artist Group (IAG) confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that they "were no longer working" with the group.

The team behind Bulgaria’s Meadows In The Mountains Festival have announced the cancellation of this year’s event, citing financial struggles as they “prepare to file for bankruptcy”.

The news was shared by the festival team on Friday, April 25, via social media.

I wrote all these songs back in the day around ’98, ’99 and played them out a couple times using my friend Scott (Black Hollies) on drums and Justin (Rye Coalition) on bass.

I basically waited 25 years to record them properly with hopes to put together a band and play them out.

As soon as I was done recording and mixing, all of this started happening to me.

It was almost as if, subconsciously, I need that I needed to record them now or I might not be able to.

Even at 10 o’clock on a bright morning in their Denver home city, you can quickly get pulled in by the gravity that swirls around Blood Incantation.

And the point of this wild story emerges: this is where he met Isaac, playing in funeral doom outfit Stoic Dissention.

By 2016, with the line-up solidified by Morris and Jeff, and with the release of Starspawn, Blood Incantation were A Thing.

“There’s a lot of serendipity in the Blood Incantation saga,” he grins.

“There’s a lot of auspiciousness, a lot of right place, right time.

You might be at the top of the mountain, distance travelled perfectly visible, and still somehow feel shredded by self-doubt.

However great things are – and things for Halestorm are really great; they’re releasing sixth album Everest on August 8 and heading out on a UK arena tour this autumn – part of being human is to doubt yourself.

The title Everest is a metaphor for the band’s constant climb, that battle to reach your destination irrespective of life’s negatives.

The new album is equal parts epic, great songwriting, and completely unhinged.

Why do people climb Everest?

That’s the uncomfortable truth at the heart of Acres’ fathomless third album.

Although The Host is officially a full-length addition to their discography, its seven tracks flash by in under 23 minutes.

There is zero padding, precious little leeway for off-message indulgence, and absolutely no allowance for fucking around.

Even still, it feels massive, modern and remarkably fully formed.

Album opener Bloodlust shapeshifts through ambient atmospherics, thudding synth-work, seductive vocals (‘There’s a world on the tip of my tongue’) and ferocious metalcore without ever feeling overstuffed or contrived.

For Stefan Babcock of Toronto punks PUP, it’s no laughing matter.

“It wasn’t about worrying about the songs being good or not,” explains Stefan.

“I wasn’t even trying to write this record.

What is surprising is quite how far they lean into the first bit.

It’s there, too, in Call Of The Void, a brutally direct song about confronting suicidal ideation.

It’s only when you realise what you’re singing along too that the full weight of the song hits you, but that’s precisely why it’s so powerful.

Yet while the highlights on this album are great, and even though, remember, it’s only half an hour long, by the time Joyride The Pale Horse reaches its end, it struggles to maintain its momentum.

I try to recreate the drums of Pacific Coliseum - Ocean City. I do this on the Digitakt II but these tips can be applied to any drum machine like Ableton Move or Push 3, or even MPCs! I attempt to speed run a house track using a real Roland TR-909 and my Octatrack! It came out way better than expected! I also set up ascent and return for the Echolocator by Erica Synths! The 909 nowadays is way too expensive and I would never consider buying one, but they do sound great and I think what really is special about it is that it makes you into a workflow that is fast with enough parameters to keep it interesting... barely... The Erica Synths Echolocator is here and it's Awesome. Quickly becoming one of the best delay pedals I've tried. But it's not a pedal haha! It's similar to the Zen Delay but don't get it twisted, they're not the same! The Echolocator has Reverb, Shimmer, a Pitch Shifter, a BBD mode, and a really cool way they've implemented the BP filter. My journey has now led me to owning an HPD-20 haha. What's hilarious is I've wanted to own one of these for soooo long but their price has kept me away. Now that I have one I realize how difficult drumming on these can be. I get it, but making it sound cool and effortless is the hard part especially at faster tempos. I've never explained exactly what is happening in my tiny setup, that changes today. I'll walk you through my setup and show you why I've been loving making music with it! The TL:DR is I have something constantly recording as a "just in case." This is thanks to the SkipBack feature on the SP-404MKII. But most importantly, I have a machine (the Digitakt II) that is my catch all for my whole studio. Everything I play and make will eventually get recorded into that sampler which will play it back. We had to get an early start to figure out how to ergonomically squeeze all of Sandbox Percussion’s instruments behind the Tiny Desk. The band deploys a surprisingly wide arsenal.
