US Congress has moved a “step closer” to banning TikTok in the United States, which could come into play in just nine months.

On Tuesday, April 23, US Congress voted to pass a bill that would ban the platform across the nation if Chinese company ByteDance refuses to sell the popular platform.

US Congress first made moves to ban the app in March over fears on both sides of the political spectrum that it could be a “national security threat” and an espionage tool.

TikTok has since said that it would not share this information if asked.

The Get Up Kids have announced a North American tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their seminal emo album Something to Write Home About.

The trek takes place late summer into the autumn, and joining them on the run are Smoking Popes.

After a set at Four Chord Music Fest on June 23, the Get Up Kids will play Something to Write Home About in full at each show, starting in Dallas, Texas, on August 23.

The Get Up Kids originally broke up back in 2005, but they reunited three years later.

Since then, the band has regularly performed live and gone on tour.

The annual awards show will take place at 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, September 10, at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

British media art and design collective Universal Everything (UE) create diverse projects that aim to do just that.

What’s interesting is how we project meaning and personality onto UE’s work.

From drone-style views of natural landscapes to sci-fi–like plants, UE create fascinating simulations of the national world.

“I’ve always been interested in trying to create work that hasn’t existed before.

There is a brilliance in their work: Universal Everything hide the tech and leave us to delight in creation, possibility and life.

‘Dance is the way I communicate’, says Ivan Michael Blackstock.

That said, stories of young Black men growing up in London in the 1990s and early 2000s are seldom heard.

‘I just gathered all that energy and put it into a piece of work’, Ivan says, which was first performed in 2015.

‘Reflecting on that film, it was really about summoning an energy, an intensity, that I remember’, Blackstock says.

‘When I was growing up, there were only certain images of Black men that were presented to me’, he reflects.

LA-based studio Actual Objects on how they suspended reality in their collaboration with electronic musician VTSS.

Created at 180 Studios XR space at 180 The Strand, this collaboration with LA-based Actual Objects is one in a series of four new videos by Martyna Maja aka VTSS.

CM: Actual Objects videos often combine footage with AI, CGI and VFX to create different environments.

H31R has a very original sound, but everyone has their influences so what did you use as a base point from the hip hop or electronic music worlds?

I used to listen to a lot of hip hop and was always watching Rap City, looking for something that sounded new.

Roar was created for Live 12 to offer a more experimental approach to these typically static effects.

A signal fed into Roar can go through three different stages of processing, coming across a variety of stackable saturation curves and filters before hitting feedback and compression.

“When people always talk about how analogue things are more warm and dynamic, this is mainly because the saturation curve in the analogue domain is never static,” Fink explains.

Curves It’s the distortion curves, called Shapers in the device, where Roar starts working on any sound fed into it.

“It was important for us to have really different flavors in there,” explains Fink.

Theaster Gates, Devon Turnbull, Caterina Barbieri, Jeremy Deller, Carsten Nicolai, Es Devlin and Virgil Abloh will feature as part of REVERB, a major multimedia exhibition exploring the intersection of art and sound curated by The Vinyl Factory, opening at 180 Studios on 23 May, 2024.

When @Sennheiser asked me to collab for #421 day I jumped at the chance to cosplay as a 1970s news reporter. I took my trusty vintage MD421-2 and combined it with a period-correct Uher Report Monitor 4000. I have seen reporters on TV, children’s books (Ali Mitgutsch Wimmelbücher for my German audience) and IRL rocking this combination, down to the leather bag. Recording outside I was surprised how sensitive the combination was - I had used the 421 in the studio, on drums especially for my „Nuclear Drum Loops“ sound pack. The Orgon Systems Enigiser was not much of hit when it came out, with only 50 to 150 units being known to exist. But over time it became a cult-classic, thanks to its excellent filter that fits perfectly into underground dance music. After decades of it being a collector's item, we are now spoiled for choice as two companies offer clones and the original creator is re-releasing the Enigiser again. FOCUSED on the creation of drums for house music and some of the nuance that help tie them together. Around halfway, we'll bring in some Piano samples that really help us get a sense of where the song can go! Lets do this! Taking the track I made last week and showing all my mixing tips that only require default Ableton devices! no facy plug-ins minus Apogee's SoftLimit which is a free plug-in! (link below) My mindset when it comes to mixing is pretty simple, light EQ'ing, light effects, and getting the volume of sound right. That last one is so important. I'll show you the -6db trick I use to get me close to done and then we'll finish it off with a simple Ableton mastering chain for house music that I use to play my tracks out in a club. The last time Volker Bertelmann stopped by NPR to perform as Hauschka, back in 2010, he dumped handfuls of Ping-Pong balls and anything else he could think of over the strings of our in-house grand piano, a performance captured in one of NPR's pristine studios (in a building that no longer exists). But for the Tiny Desk, the pianist and composer assumed the challenge of preparing our significantly smaller upright in a much-less-controlled environment. Чтобы согреться — ловите теплого и настоящего дип хауса самых лучших лет. Правду ведь говорят, что музыка это универсальный язык. Вот и молодому вьетнамскому диджею, который свел нижеприведенные миксы, оказался не чужд американский и европейский хаус из девяностых. В качестве затравки первыми идут подборки с лейблов основателей Дафт Панков (Roule Тома Бангальтера и Crydamoure Ги-Мануэля), но самое интересное идет после них — огромное количество красивой и мягкой музыки из Чикаго, Нью-Йорка, Гамбурга и Франкфурта-на-Майне. Может быть, эти издательства не так известны в широких кругах, но их пластинки определенно заслуживают внимания. #inthemix

В мире джаза Клиффорд Браун был известен под прозвищем Брауни, но ещё за каких-то 4 года до его первых сессий для Blue Note друзья знали его как Брэйна – талантливого студента математического колледжа, который ещё тинейджером сознавал, что иметь престижную и стабильную профессию вдобавок к музыкальным увлечениям не повредит. Вошедший с бибопом в моду героиново-алкогольный флёр Клиффорда тоже никогда не прельщал, он с юных лет демонстрировал удивительный профессионализм и независимость суждений. Не было и дня, чтобы он не выкроил время для репетиций и упражнений – уже позже во время многочисленных турне ранним утром в автобусах и поездах его всегда можно было застать практикующимся на трубе.…

Очень рекомендую не пропускать пластинку нашего старого знакомого Сэма Гендела и бразильского гитариста Фабиано до Насименто. Называется "The Room", вышла на лейбле Real World.На протяжении 35 минут звучат всего два инструмента – акустика и саксофон (который местами вообще больше похож на флейту). Красота неописуемая. Ничего лишнего – каждая нота на своём месте, каждая гармония сыграна с теплом, нежностью и чувством.Ехал под этот альбом в февральскую метель на поезде и просто растворился в этой записи. Одно из самых сильных впечатлений начала года.
